what is trendfriends?

trendfriends is a newsletter uncovering cultural trends and spotlighting under-the-radar creatives shaping the zeitgeist, written by two friends—Maria Santa Poggi and Sara Radin—who like trends. The two of us are both journalists who cover style, culture, and beauty for many major publications including The New York Times, Vogue, Teen Vogue, Vogue Business, Allure, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, Rolling Stone, Dazed Digital, i-D Magazine, Marie Claire, Interview, Bustle, Byrdie, Nylon, InStyle, Vice, Buzzfeed, Glamour, Self Magazine, Refinery29, and more.

With the trend cycle rapidly accelerating and our identities evolving at a dramatic pace, we feel called to do this work now more than ever. This newsletter is our way of connecting the dots, making sense of the chaos, and understanding the world around us a little better. Both of us are curious about the why behind trends, and the largely unseen faces behind emerging cultural movements. We see patterns and meaning in everything, everywhere we go. Plus, doing this work is the only way we know how to freeze time and look closer at the aspects of life that are often overlooked and are passing us by.

As we’re just getting started and both freelancing full-time, we plan to try and publish one to two times a week right now with the hope of growing over time. Each week you’ll get one long form feature about a trend we’re thinking about deeply, an interview with a creator we believe deserves more of a spotlight, and then of course, a weekly trend round up that also features shit we love and shit we hate.
