Hi there, trendfriends!
New York Fashion Week for Spring/Summer 2025 has kicked off and we’re here to hold your virtual hand through all the chaos, the drama, and of course the fashion. But first, a little pop culture recap of the last week: Bachelor Nation was up in arms earlier this week when Bachelorette star Jenn Tran was forced into watching her proposal to Devin (which was broken off by that clout-chasing POS after the cameras stopped rolling) spurning many think tank pieces about how reality TV is particularly cruel to women for high viewership engagement.
Alexa Chung released her second collaboration with Madewell. The collection is modern with Western yet sleek textures and consists of Canadian Tuxedos, dark chocolate brown Suede overcoats, and skirt blazer sets.
Taylor Swift rendered a big FUCK YOU (according to girly pop content creator @Elirallo) through her outfit (of course, nothing says “I’m over you bitches,” like a Canadian Tuxedo pairing with high-waisted shorts, a matching corset, and thigh-high boots in burgundy red) at Arrowhead Stadium, supporting Travis Kelce as the Chiefs play the Ravens. If anything, Swift’s outfit debunks those viral breakup rumors.
The fake heiress Anna Delvey became an unexpected and controversial addition to this season of Dancing With The Stars. She even wore her black ankle monitor in the promo and broke her house arrest to compete on the show. It’s really giving a Lindsey Lohan-esque SS07 Chanel angle-monitor bag flashback.
Earlier this week, Maria wrote a feature about @girlscarryingshit, and we’re stoked that Miu Miu showed some love to the founder and the platform at NYFW.
Meghann Fahy, star of White Lotus and The Bold Type, wore a sheer lace black Victoria Beckham dress to the premiere of Netflix’s The Perfect Couple. She captioned her pic, “Spice Girl for life in this @victoriabeckham dress” — also in black at a big event this week, were Katy Perry (she was also called out this week by Alex Cooper on an episode of Call Her Daddy’ for partnering with producer Dr. Luke who Kesha has allegations against), Lady Gaga (three times to be exact), Cate Blanchett, AnnaSophia Rob, Kate Winslet, Olivia Rodrigo (she appeared at the Venice Film Festival, confirming her relationship with actor Louis Partridge), Kylie Jenner and more. These outfits were all spotted on @justjared.
The Jonas Brothers covered Chappell Roan with their own version of “Good Luck Babe” and Jenna Ortega said she wants to represent “weird” people. Katie Holmes wore skinny jeans — a trend that’s about to re-pop this season — with a see-through lace neon top and a black bra, a chain link bag, and silver flats.
Charli XCX and Troye Sivan, who are about to tour together, covered i-D for its re-launch wearing Vaquera. Gracie Abrams, singer and rumored gf of Normal People’s Paul Mescal, wore cute headwear for the cover of Who What Wear. Emrata wore a red polka dot vintage dress and said it brought out a very “emrata” side of her. She also wore a Canadian Tuxedo for a Miu Miu event. Griff, who opened for Taylor Swift during some of her London shows, shared her own iconic version of Charli XCX’s “Apple”.
“It girl” Devon Lee Carlson walked the runway for Proenza Schouler wearing a structured grey blazer with black pants and a top, and a tan tubular bag (is this a style we will be seeing soon?). Influencer and “Dollface” actor Owen Thiele launched his podcast with Alex Cooper’s Unwell Network called “In Your Dreams”.
Emma Roberts went fishing and it confirmed our lurecore trend. And now for some of our weekly trends!
TRENDS:
Vera Bradley-ish & Quilted Things: For the uninitiated, touting a Vera Bradley overnight duffle to a sleepover was a coveted status symbol in 2007. At least, it was for Maria and the sleepovers she attended in middle school. It seems the brand is having a reckoning, especially since announcing their collaboration with Urban Outfitters, brining back their iconic prints and patterns from the 90s. Sara bought a vintage Vera in Princeton, NJ earlier this year.
From Vera Bradley to MZ Wallace X Platform announcing a collaboration with artist Cynthia Talmadge releasing quilted duffles featuring Talmadge’s original artwork and naming it Aspiring Actress, we’re also seeing quilting pop up everywhere.
Even the latest must-have brand, Damson Madder, is quickly becoming known for its signature quilted gilets and bags. The brand has a New York pop-up this week and Sara thinks its on the verge of becoming the next Ganni.
Burgundy Red Replacing Cherry Red: As Swift made it clear from her suite in Arrowhead Stadium, the pop of red trend that saw everywhere last year is now relinquishing into a darker, burgundy full-bodied red. Expect to see the darker, moodier red take over fashion you see on the street and the runway in the coming months.
Leopard Print Nails: As we reported recently, leopard is back in a big way and now we’re seeing it on nails. But these aren’t your average leopard print nails—we’re now seeing intricate details like cherries, Betty Boop, and Hello Kitty added for visual interest.
Shit We Love: New Yorker staff writer Naomi Fry wrote an analysis on the mute spectacle of Bianca Censori’s revealing paparazzi outfits. For The Cut’s fall cover story, Emily Gould profiled Chloë Sevigny on navigating motherhood and her career. Emily Leibert also investigates for The Cut if casual sex has *always* been this bad. Laura Pitcher investigated how hiring make-up artists for the first day of school is becoming popular amongst Gen Z for Dazed. Fashion writer Liana Satenstein interviewed Marc Jacobs for Highsnobiety. Writer Ellen Mirojnick wrote a story for NYT opinion about why we love movie stars in white t-shirts.Emerging pop star Benee, who briefly opened for Olivia Rodrigo’s tour, released her song “Sad Boiii” with a video featuring men crying and a cute hat. Climax Books, founded by former Dazed EIC and the CMO of Acne Studios, partnered with “it girl” fashion brand Chopova Lowena. Photographer Anna Koblish photographed controversial influencer Paige Lorenze for NYLON — the photos are cool but we feel pretty meh about Lorenze. Euphoria actress Maude Apatow wore a cherry red matching set with a rosette at the chest. @ideservecouture made a video about the importance of hair on the September cover of Vogue Philippines.
Precious Lee, a plus-sized model, was on the cover of Elle UK — in light of the Ozempic wave, this is critical representation. Sarah Jessica Parker rewore Carrie Bradshaw’s silk Chanel blouse from the Sex And the City episode “Hot Child in the City” 24 years after it aired. @dietprada reported that Hailey Bieber’s brand, Rhode, updated its blush shades after Black influencer Golloria George called the brand out for its lack of inclusive shades. Dancer and dance teacher Angela Timbur released her new dance film short on Nowness.
Also: Sara wrote about Fridgescaping for Architectural Digest and found that there’s more to the trend than just arranging your fridge beautifully. Check it out!
Ok that’s it for now!
